🔐 How MZScan Handles Your Files: What Stays on Your Device and What Does Not

By the MZScan team · Updated 17 October 2026 · 4 min read

People reasonably ask what happens to an ID card, a contract or a bank letter when they put it through an online tool. This page explains what MZScan does with your files, what small amounts of other information the site does store, and how you can check the claims yourself. It reflects how the site works as of October 2026 and is checked against the actual code and network behaviour.

Your files are processed in your browser

The scanner, Image to PDF, PDF to Image, the image compressor, PDF Tools, the ID card, photo and signature tool, and the text editor all do their work inside your own browser, on your own device. Your images and PDFs are not sent to MZScan's servers.

We checked this by opening each of these tools, choosing a real image or PDF file, and watching every network request the page made. In every case no request carried the file, and no upload or POST request was made. The requests were for the site's own pages and for scripts and fonts, described below, and none of them carried the file.

What the site does store

The privacy policy lists this in full. In short:

What we never receive

We do not receive the contents of your images or PDFs, their file names, or the text that the editor detects on a page. Nothing from the files you process is written to our database.

What stays in your own browser

Your browser keeps a few small items locally: your Device ID, your Premium code, a counter for the free Edit tool's daily downloads, and (if analytics are ever switched on) your cookie choice. You can clear them in your browser settings.

Third parties that load with the site

These providers see that your browser asked for their code, but not your files. We do not use analytics at the moment. If we add optional analytics, it will only run after you accept it, and it will never receive file names, file contents or detected text. Advertising cookies and your choices are explained in the Privacy Policy.

How to check it yourself

  1. Open one of the tools in Chrome and press F12 to open developer tools.
  2. Choose the Network tab and clear the list.
  3. Choose a file in the tool and watch the list.
  4. You should see no request that sends your file. Requests for scripts and fonts are normal.

Honest limits

Browser-based processing protects your files from our servers, but it cannot protect them from everything. Other software or extensions on your device may be able to see what is in your browser, and a shared or public computer is never a safe place for ID cards or financial papers. When you share a file with someone afterwards, they control that copy. For general advice see Are online PDF tools safe?

Deleting your data

You can delete your account from the Account page. To remove a device record, or any message or Premium request, email [email protected] with your Device ID. We do not currently delete device records automatically, so a request is needed.

Frequently asked questions

Does MZScan keep a copy of my scanned documents?
No. The files stay in your browser and are not uploaded, so there is no copy on our side.

Do you see the text the editor detects?
No. Text detection runs in your browser and the detected text is not sent to us.

Is the site free of tracking?
There are no analytics scripts today. Content pages load Google AdSense code, which may use cookies for ads, and the site stores the technical record described above for abuse prevention, Premium and basic usage understanding.

Your files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
